Osteopathy uses a hands on approach to build health in their patients who have ailments that affect their day-to-day lives. Osteopathy prepares the body through a series of small changes so that it is able and ready to hold onto the changes better. In each treatment, the Osteopathic Practitioner works to discover why their patients are having pain in the first place, thus treating their individual needs that are unique to their structure.

This means, treating what is causing the pain rather than where the pain is coming from (the symptom).

The goal is to realign your body to allow for a better environment for it to self-heal and self-regulate; with a focus on treating to ensure that any movement restrictions that prevent you from being healthy are addressed. When these hindering factors are removed through treatment, balance is then restored in our bodies which enable it to work better under optimal conditions. Your body is given the chance to do it’s work so that it will be improved to heal your concern on its own.

Laura’s interest in manual therapy started when she was in high school when she found interest in anatomy and how the body works as a whole. She developed a passion for wanting to help people through natural means. This led to her working in a Physiotherapy clinic, where she learned about Osteopathy, preceding to her starting at the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy to complete her Masters in Practice of Osteopathic Manipulative Sciences. Laura believes Osteopathic Care should be available for everyone. Her Osteopathic approach is gentle and nurturing, she uses a hands-on-approach to build health in her patients through gentle manipulation of the soft tissues. She believes that the body is capable of healing itself through being in the right environment. Her goal is to help patients live a pain free life, get to the source of why their body’s are not functioning the way it should, and eventually have her patients needing minimal intervention.

She treats in Mississauga and Oakville. In an appointment with her she will spend time getting to know how you use your body, what types of injuries you’ve had, what your body systems work like and the various symptoms you may be feeling. Once this is understood she will then proceed to assess your body’s movement preferences and base treatment on how your individual body presents. Each treatment is catered to YOUR body and how it functions itself.

She keeps her hours flexible so it’s not difficult to get appointments when you need them.

From as young as I can remember, I have always liked to move. In my youth I played multiple sports, with hockey as my sport of choice. As I aged, it was important to me to maintain my mobility, not only so I could continue playing the sport I loved but to also allow me to be active in all areas of my life. Strength training has now played a prominent role in my life for over 20 years. What started as a need quickly turned into a passion. This passion ignited a desire to help others with similar goals. I formalized my knowledge with a Personal Training Specialist certification and have been studying under the guidance of Justin Vince at Prototype Sports Performance for three years.

Often as we age our mobility starts to deteriorate, not naturally but from a lack of use. It is also well established that muscle mass begins to decline without intervention.

However, I can help you not only maintain your mobility but help improve it as well. With my patient, process oriented and common-sense approach, I can help improve your quality of life and remain healthy and active! Contact me today to be the best version of yourself!

Justin Vince is the founder of Prototype Sports Performance in Mississauga, ON. Throughout his career as a Strength and Conditioning coach, Justin has had the privilege of working with a wide range of athletes including players from the NHL, AHL, CFL, CIS and NCAA. Justin began PSP with a vision to provide athletes with a better, more efficient and holistic way to achieve peak performance.

Justin is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, as recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. In addition, he is a certified coach by United States of America Track and Field, United States of America Weightlifting and a member of the Ontario College of Teachers. This combination of technical knowledge and an understanding of learning pedagogy has shaped Justin’s approach to strength and conditioning coaching. It is Justin’s belief that the creation of a positive and collaborative environment for athletes, is the key to maximizing their performance gains. Through a desire to understand each athlete’s needs, learning style and opportunities, Justin is able to truly individualize the training approach and environment for maximum results.

Prior to attending teachers college, Justin had a successful career as a member of the varsity football team at McMaster University. As a SAM Linebacker Justin was a part of some of the most formidable defences in the league and was twice named captain. However, possibly the biggest influence on Justin during his time at McMaster was the exposure to what is in his opinion the best strength and conditioning program in the CIS. Justin had the privilege to be coached by, and learn from some of the most progressive and knowledgeable coaches in the country. The year following graduation Justin had the honor of working as an assistant to the strength and conditioning coach with the Marauder football team.

Justin believes that efficiency of movement is critical to performance and the health of the athlete. His training style focuses on the quality of movement. Whether it be squatting, performing Olympic style lifts or sprinting, he pays attention to the fine details and stresses a mindfulness on these qualities with his athletes. The body will always revert back to where it has gone most frequently and because of this we must groove the proper movement patterns in training, in order to best serve the athlete in competition.
